Aurora approves police bonuses

The city of Aurora will say thank you for a murder-free year in 2012 to its 289 sworn officers by bestowing on them a bonus check for $500 each. The city council approved the bonuses last night to commend officers in their efforts at reducing violent crimes in the city. Full story.

Des Plaines Theatre has 13 months to fix problems

After a lengthy discussion last night, the Des Plaines City Council voted to extend the deadlines for the operators of the Des Plaines Theatre to address code violations, such as its curtain not being fire resistant, the lack of a sprinkler system by the stage area, and issues with the boiler room and furnace room. Palatine McDonald’s workers sue

A lawsuit has been filed by four female employees of the Palatine McDonald’s against the restaurant’s manager, owners and the Oak Brook-based corporation claiming they were sexual assaulted at the store and then punished for reporting it. A criminal investigation into the matter, however, was dropped for lack of evidence. Full story.

Some suburban lawmakers opt out of pensions

As lawmakers being a new session struggling with the state’s pension debt, 23 have decided to decline taking a pension themselves. Of those, 14 are freshman lawmakers. Full story.

Medical HQ moving to Schaumburg

Schaumburg will be home to the American Society of Anesthesiologists, after approving the site plan last night to build a new headquarters there in 2014. The three-story, 71,365-square-foot building is slated for 1061 American Lane, across from John Barleycorn. Full story.

Weather

Cold with temperatures only registering at 10 degrees this morning. Temperatures will rise to about 22 degrees this afternoon, but some flurries will roll in with the increased temperatures. Temperatures will drop back to 9 degrees overnight tonight. Full story.

Traffic

Construction will continue through spring at Joliet Street over Kress Creek in West Chicago. Also, police and firefighters are on the scene of disabled car fire on Roosevelt Road at South Laramie Road on Chicago’s west side. More traffic.

Blackhawks win home opener

Patrick Kane, Brent Seabrook and Viktor Stalberg scored to top the St. Louis Blues 3-2 last night in the Blackhawks’ home opener. Corey Crawford made 32 saves. Full story.

Bulls will take on Pistons tonight

After knocking off the star-studded Los Angeles Lakers late Monday night, the Bulls conducted a leisurely practice Tuesday at the Berto Center in advance of tonight’s home game against Detroit. The Bulls’ winning streak over Detroit reached 16 games with a 108-104 victory in Auburn Hills on Dec. 7. Full story.
