Write-in candidate files for Sugar Grove Library race

The third time could be the charm for Pat Graceffa’s efforts to get on the Sugar Grove Library board.

Graceffa filed a Declaration of Intent Tuesday to be a write-in candidate for the April 9 election. She is seeking one of two 6-year terms.

The other candidates are incumbent Robert Bergman and Edward DeBartolo.

Graceffa applied in December to fill the vacancy left when Trustee Julie Wilson quit in November. She was the only applicant. The board rejected her application, in a tie vote, according to Graceffa.

She also submitted nomination papers in late December to get on the ballot. The board secretary declared her application incomplete because it did not contain a Statement of Candidacy.

Graceffa was president of the Sugar Grove Friends of the Library before it disbanded in 2011. She was a staunch supporter of former library director Beverly Holmes Hughes, criticizing the board frequently when it fired Hughes in 2011. The Friends disbanded at that time, with members saying they could no longer support the library board.

Graceffa, who moved to the village in 2001, was the Sugar Grove Citizen of the Year in 2006.
