Rolling Meadows appoints new fire chief

After eight months as acting Rolling Meadows fire chief, Scott Franzgrote has been named to the position permanently.

Franzgrote, who has been with the department since 1990, has served as acting chief since the retirement of former chief Ronald Stewart.

City Manager Barry Krumstok noted Franzgrote’s years of service in both emergency medical service and firefighting and said his knowledge of the community is invaluable.

Franzgrote grew up in Elk Grove Village and has a bachelor’s degree from Eastern Illinois University. He teaches in Harper College’s Fire Science program.

His past roles with the fire department have included deputy fire chief, member of the dive team and EMS coordinator and training officer. He and his wife, Dawn, have three children.
