New Buffalo Grove deputy manager hits ground running

Jennifer Maltas hit the ground running Monday in her first day as Buffalo Grove deputy village manager.

Village leaders held a meet-and-greet event with Maltas prior to Monday’s village board meeting, giving her the opportunity to interact with residents, community groups and representatives of other government bodies.

Maltas replaced a mainstay of the village manager’s office, Ghida Neukirch, who left to take a job in the city manager’s office in Highland Park.

“I’m excited. It’s a great opportunity,” Maltas said. “It’s a great community. I grew up in the area (in Arlington Heights). My dad still lives there, in the house I grew up in.

“I used to go to Buffalo Grove High School to see my friends in plays and sports, so I have been around this area quite a bit,” added Maltas, who attended Thomas Middle School and Hersey High School in Arlington Heights.

Prior to her hiring in Buffalo Grove, Maltas worked for the village of Schaumburg from 2007 to 2010, specializing in budget and utility issues. In January 2010, she was hired as assistant to the Deerfield village manager.

“I think the variety of experiences in a larger community like Schaumburg and then a smaller community has given me a really wide base of experience to bring to this position,” she said.

In her new position, she will be handling areas such as planning and building. It also is likely she will be involved in economic development.

“I’m excited,” Village President Jeffrey Braiman said. “I think Jenny is a very bright, articulate woman. She has a very good background from several different, highly regarded communities.”
