South Elgin boys bowlers make state

The South Elgin boys bowling team extended its season one more week Saturday when the Storm qualified for next weekend’s IHSA state finals by finishing second at the DeKalb sectional.

South Elgin rolled a 6-game team series of 5,898 to outdistance the host Barbs by 18 pins for the state qualifying spot. Dixon won the sectional championship with a 5,935.

Senior Jake Anderson led the Storm with a 1,221 series for the day. Sophomore Jake Brown came in at 1,210, while junior Alex Oden had a 1,180. Seniors Devin Netzel (1,173) and Gino Riscossa (1,114) also scored for South Elgin, which also qualified for state in 2009.

St. Edward senior Dean Galati (1,262) and Elgin sophomore Lowell Lynde IV (1,259) are on the list of potential individual at-large qualifiers. Those individuals will be announced by the IHSA on Monday.

Sycamore junior Kyle Bonnell had the best series of the day with a 1,375.

Larkin finished ninth in the team standings with a 5,472. Elgin (12th, 5,278), Westminster Christian (13th, 5,189) and St. Edward (15th, 5,068) also competed as teams.

The IHSA state finals are next Friday and Saturday in downstate O’Fallon.
