New assistant police chief in Barrington

Barrington officials have promoted police Sgt. David Dorn to the rank of assistant police chief and patrol officer John Burke to the rank of sergeant.

The office of assistant chief — previously deputy chief — has remained vacant for three and a half years for budgetary reasons, Police Chief Jerry Libit said. The second-in-command position, which Libit previously held himself, has historically been of invaluable help to the chief and insures the potential for a smooth succession of authority within the department, he added.

Dorn has been with the department for 14 years and Burke for 12 years.
