Carol Stream man charged with robbing Elgin bank

A 30-year-old man from Carol Stream has been charged with robbing an Elgin bank Tuesday morning, according to the FBI.

Jeremy Evans appeared in federal court Wednesday and was ordered to be held until his next court appearance by Magistrate Judge Michael Mason.

According to police, Evans robbed the Old Second National Bank on Route 20 and Nesler Road around 9:16 a.m. Tuesday. He jumped on the counter and demanded money while wearing a mask and displaying a gun, then fled in a white Toyota Camry, police said.

According to a complaint filed in federal court, Evans was caught about five minutes after he left the bank. Authorities said they found black gloves, a black hat with a mask, a black hooded sweatshirt, $4,812 and a black air-soft gun in the car with Evans.

Evans will appear in court again at 11 a.m. Jan. 24.
