A Bensenville man was charged Friday with stealing a running vehicle in which an 18-month-old girl was seated in the back.

Adan Ozuna, 34, of the 1000 block of Argyle Street, was charged with unlawful possession of a stolen motor vehicle and unlawful possession of a converted motor vehicle -- both felonies. He also faces misdemeanor charges of endangering the life of a child and driving with a revoked license.

Ozuna was arrested without incident about 10:30 a.m. Friday at an apartment in Mount Prospect.

Bensenville police said Ozuna stole the 2003 black Buick Rendezvous about 12:30 a.m. Thursday from an apartment complex parking lot on the 900 block of West Irving Park Road. When the child's mother entered the building, Ozuna exited and got into her car and drove away, according to a police department news release.

Later that morning, police said they received a report from a resident on the 1100 block of Argyle -- just down the street from Ozuna's residence -- that the Buick was parked in a driveway and looked unfamiliar. When officers arrived, they found the child in the back seat, and she was reunited with her mother.

The child had no visible injuries but was taken to Elmhurst Memorial Hospital as a precaution, police said.

Ozuna is due in DuPage County circuit court Saturday morning for a bond hearing.
