Elmhurst man arrested after accident in Des Plaines

An Elmhurst man was arrested in Des Plaines after he a slugged a man who told him he was calling police over a traffic accident, according to police reports.

Reports said Anthony Lee Stanley, 24, of the 400 block of West St. Charles Road, rear-ended a parked pickup truck on the 600 block of East Howard Avenue around 10:30 a.m. Jan. 1.

When the owner came out to investigate and told Stanley he was phoning 911, Stanley punched him in the face, then ran south on Wolf Road, police said.

On the 500 block of East Jarvis Avenue, the owner of a 2002 Daewoo who had the car running to warm up saw Stanley smash the front driver’s-side window with his elbow and break in, reports said.

Stanley again took off running but fell in the street, where officers said they found him with the second car’s owner standing over him.

Stanley was charged with battery, DUI and criminal damage to property, according to police reports. His court date is Jan. 30.
