Being decisive shows spiritual maturity

“But when he asks, he must believe and not doubt, because he who doubts is like a wave of the sea, blown and tossed by the wind. That man should not think he will receive anything from the Lord; he is a double-minded man, unstable in all he does.”

Many of us have recently made a New Year’s resolution.

It is a decision about something we are going to do or not do. Everyday we are faced with decisions to make. Some are big, but many are small or routine.

Some of our decisions come by choosing what we enjoy, or by doing what we have been taught to do, or are based on the results of previous experiences we’ve had.

Some choices just aren’t that critical and whatever we may choose to do would be OK. Others come from Godly intuition — which are common sense choices — or by listening to what God is speaking to our hearts.

God warns us that wavering over two opinions makes us double-minded and unstable. It causes us to become wishy-washy, and weakens our sense of judgment as we go back and forth struggling to decide what to do about a situation.

We can’t receive anything, because we can’t decide what we want.

Being decisive is a step to spiritual maturity. When feeling indecisive, we should pray and ask God to give us the inner strength to stick with a decision.

Sticking with our New Year’s resolutions is one way we can start to become more stable and mature regarding the decisions we have made.
