Audition workshops for actors in St. Charles

Submitted by Vero Voce School

Vero Voce School of Visual and Performing Arts in St. Charles is offering two new classes with theater faculty member David M. Rodriguez starting Jan. 12.

An award-winning actor and playwright, he will lead a class in preparing for auditions, as well as an introduction to theater for young actors called “Imagination Workshop.”

The audition class will be held from 9 to 9:55 a.m. Saturdays, Jan. 12 to Feb. 23. Tuition is $85 for the seven classes. Each student will have multiple taped mock “auditions.” The first few auditions will be from mainstream films the students may have seen. All remaining auditions will be scenes that are completely foreign to the students. Instruction will focus on making the strongest decisions possible, based on the information they have been given. Students will learn how to dress for specific auditions and about professionalism in the theater/film community.

The Imagination Workshop for young actors will be held from 10 a.m. to noon Saturdays, Jan. 12 to Feb. 23. Tuition is $95 for the seven classes. Instead of using scripts, students will use their mind and body to convey emotions and scenarios, allowing the actors to fully grasp the importance of making choices and understanding the specificity of certain situations. At the end of the course, the young actors will have learned that acting isn’t necessarily about what they say and how they say it, but about what they feel and convey to an audience.
