Four people were arrested during a traffic stop in Waukegan Saturday and charged with three recent armed robberies after officers noticed a gun, two masks and a purse in the vehicle, police said.

A Waukegan police officer stopped a vehicle at 10:30 p.m. driven by Orlando Salazar, 19, of the 0-99 block of North Victory Street in Waukegan.

The weapon seen by the officer -- a BB gun -- as well as the purse were both linked to an armed robbery that took place last week. Officers were also investigating two other armed robberies that took place at ATMs.

Salazar and three other occupants later gave statements implicating their involvement in all three armed robberies, police said. Salazar was charged with three counts of aggravated armed robbery.

Steve Briggins, 17, of the 600 block of Lorraine Avenue, Waukegan, was charged with three counts of aggravated armed robbery.

Juan Martinez, 19, of the south Martin Avenue, Waukegan, was charged with three counts of aggravated armed robbery.

All three are being held at the Lake County jail on $200,000 bail.

A 15-year-old boy was also charged with one count of aggravated armed robbery and was taken to Hulse Juvenile Detention Center in Vernon Hills.

Police were tipped to Salazar's potential involvement from calls in response to a reverse calling system that notified residents of the armed robberies and requested anyone with information to contact police.

"I am very proud of patrol officer Al Cancino, who made this stop, which lead to the arrest of these four suspects," Waukegan Police Chief Daniel Greathouse said in a statement. "I am equally proud of the detectives for their tireless efforts in following up on numerous leads and wrapping up this complex case."
