Buffalo Grove/Stevenson High Relay For Life earns award

Buffalo Grove/Stevenson High School’s Relay For Life was awarded the American Cancer Society’s prestigious Relay All Star Award at the society’s recent Relay Leadership Summit in Itasca.

With the Relay All Star Award, the Illinois Division of the American Cancer Society honors Relay events that achieve significant fundraising and participant growth.

In 2012, Relay For Life of Buffalo Grove/Stevenson High School raised more than $86,000 with 502 participants.

“By supporting Relay For Life of Buffalo Grove/Stevenson High School, our volunteers are helping us save more lives faster,” said Alan D. Lev, chairman of the board of the American Cancer Society’s Illinois Division.

“We invite all local residents to join us in fighting for every birthday threatened by cancer at this year’s Relay.”

Students have already begun forming teams and raising donations for the 2013 Buffalo Grove/Stevenson High School Relay. The first planning meeting was scheduled for 7 p.m. Wednesday, Dec. 12, at Buffalo Grove High School’s Community Room.

Buffalo Grove High School will host the Buffalo Grove/Stevenson Relay For Life in June 2013. The two schools together will welcome hundreds of community members, students, and staff Friday and Saturday, June 14-15, for the all-night celebration known as Relay For Life.

Participants will join teams of eight to 15 people and work for several months to raise money for cancer research and patient services.
