FBI says Hoffman Estates man robbed several area banks
A Hoffman Estates man was charged Friday with robbing a Park Ridge bank and is suspected in the robberies of five other banks in Chicago and the northwest suburbs.
Kenneth White, 34, of the 700 block of West Bode Circle, was arrested Thursday in Schaumburg without incident and appeared in court Friday on a felony bank robbery charge for the Nov. 9 robbery of a Harris Bank branch in Park Ridge, according to the FBI.
According to a federal criminal complaint, White entered the bank, located at 615 Busse Highway, approached a teller counter, and displayed a handwritten note on torn piece of paper from a McDonald’s bag. The note contained the writing, “Give me all the money.” White then said to the teller quietly, “Now.”
He left with $3,816 in cash, officials said.
White was convicted of robbing the same bank on April 16, 2004.
Authorities said bank surveillance photos indicate the suspect “bore a resemblance” to the robber of two other banks, the TCF Bank branch at 1415 Algonquin Road in Rolling Meadows on Oct. 26, and the Popular Community Bank at 7181 West Irving Park Road in Chicago on Nov. 5.
FBI officials said White may also be behind the three more robberies: on Nov. 15 at the TCF Bank at 2301 N. Harlem in Chicago, on Nov. 23 at the Glenview State Bank at 1801 South Arlington Heights Road in Arlington Heights, and on Dec. 3 at the MB Financial Bank at 2200 N. Waukegan Road in Glenview. White has not been charged with committing those robberies, officials said.
If convicted of the charge in the Nov. 9 Park Ridge robbery, White could face up to 20 years in prison.
