Several communities to share $21 million in grants

WASHINGTON — U.S. Sen. Dick Durbin of Illinois says several communities in the state will share more than $21 million in grant funding through three programs administered by the federal Department of Housing and Urban Development.

In a news release, Durbin says Berwyn, Bolingbrook, Cicero, Hoffman Estates, Des Plaines, Cook County and St. Clair County will receive community development block grants ranging from $259,000 for Hoffman Estates to $9.3 million for Cook County.

Cook County and the communities of Rockford and Peoria also received emergency shelter grants that are awarded to local and state agencies to improve the quality and number of emergency shelters.

Cook County received about $3.6 million and St. Clair County about $610,000 as part of the HOME program, which is designed to create affordable housing for low-income households.
