Find the Christmas present that escapes you in West Dundee

Is the perfect holiday gift to give still eluding you?

If so, maybe you should check out the Swell Gallery in downtown West Dundee.

The gallery, on the lower level at 123½ W. Main St., is holding its fourth annual Holiday Arts, Crafts and Vintage Market all month. The event opens with an artists reception from 5 to 9 p.m. Saturday, Dec. 8.

Regular shopping hours will be from 1 to 4 p.m. on Tuesdays and Saturdays or by appointment, through the end of the year.

Items for sale include jewelry, gift tags, ornaments, fairy houses, teacup plants and bags, traditional artwork, soy candles and vintage items from the 1950s through the 1980s. More than 20 artists are featured.

Speak out: Fox River Grove will be holding a public hearing for the 2012 tax levy at 6 p.m. Thursday, Dec. 13.

Following the meeting, the board will consider adopting an ordinance and will use feedback given at the public hearing to help make their decision. Be sure to attend to make your voice heard. For information, call village hall at (847) 639-3170.

If you’re interested in avoiding the temptation, be sure to join an hourlong coffee discussion at the Huntley Area Library District to learn about strategies for healthy eating during the holidays.

The talk, scheduled for 10 a.m. Monday, Dec. 17, will be led by Kate Olson, a registered dietitian from the diabetes center at Advocate Good Shepherd Hospital.
