Elmhurst man charged with dealing pot

An Elmhurst man has been charged with dealing marijuana, police said Wednesday.

Matthew Porter, 22, of the 100 block of South Fairlane Avenue, faces one count each of delivery of cannabis and drug paraphernalia possession.

Police said they arrested Porter on Nov. 14 after finding about two ounces of cannabis, a scale, a pipe and $708 in his 2003 Chevy Malibu. Porter had been stopped on westbound St. Charles Road at 8:14 p.m. for driving 40 mph in a 30 mph zone, according to court records. Police said he was in the act of delivering the drugs to an Elmhurst address.

“It is believed the suspect has been providing narcotics to the Elmhurst area,” police Chief Michael Ruth said in a news release.

If convicted, Porter could face up to five years in prison. His next court date is Dec. 20 before DuPage County Judge Kathryn Creswell.
