Janette Quinn is a local writer who specializes in memories through her company, She assists individuals, couples and families who want to preserve history in their own words. Since the holidays offer chances to capture stories before it's too late, she is conducting a workshop for families and caregivers on Wednesday, December 12 from 6:30 pm to 8:00 p.m. at Arden Courts, 2 South 706 Park Boulevard in Glen Ellyn.

Often, dementia begins to steal what families most want to keep. Quinn will outline ways for loved ones of all ages to connect, celebrate and share family memories that may be passed to the next generation.

"Every life is filled with stories," says Quinn. "The best ways to learn them are by engaging the senses through loving interaction. Even Alzheimer's patients have the ability to share if creative approaches allow them to add to the family's reminiscing."

"No matter how much or little a special senior remembers, sharing stories with willing listeners promotes the language and memory skills that begin to fade with age. Meaningful interactions also build self esteem, trust and stronger relationships while gathering history for the family," said Quinn.

Anyone visiting or caring for a senior this season may call 630/469-5500 for a free workshop reservation. See or for further information about the presenter and host organization.
