Discount deserved for smelly water

Do you live in West Dundee? Does your tap water taste bad or smell worse than usual? Do you and your clothes smell like your tap water and won’t get soft no matter how much water softener you use in the laundry or put in your water softening system?

Then write to the village manager and trustees and demand the village lower your water rate or provide bottled drinking water for the 60-90 days it will take the village to lower the level of hydrogen sulfide coming from Well No. 5 at the Angle Tarn well. The village acknowledges it causes an odor issue but remains safe to drink.

The village is working to add ozone treatment to Well No. 1 in the Old Town area or at the Angle Tarn well as a potential solution. However, that won’t be effective “until the next warm weather season.”

The village says they are not willing to reduce water rates or provide a credit as a response to the residents having to live with this substandard quality of water for the 60-90 days they estimate to have Well 1 back in service because “your address is the only one in the Old Town area that they have received a complaint of poor water quality.”

We residents pay enough for our water and other village services through our taxes and water bills to be treated this offhandedly. Don’t forget, there is another election coming up in a few months.
