2 Time Individual World Poetry Slam Champion and Emmy Nominee Comes To Chicago For One Night

Gary, Indiana native and Chicago resident Kevin Joseph, aka Kay Joe Unscripted is the founder of the event “One Night Only”, an eclectic combination of music and poetry that happens in Chicago and Indianapolis. What was supposed to be a one time event has now blossomed into a bi-monthly happening that never repeats performers or venues.

“Initially I had planned to have one show in Chicago and one in Indianapolis the month of my birthday and that would be it”, said Kevin. “As of our December show, that will have been two years of my running this 'one time' event. The people demanded we go on, so I have.”

The event, planned for December 15th at the AKArama Foundation and Community Services Center will be One Night Only's two year anniversary and biggest show to date, with their first internationally recognized artist performing. Alpha Kappa Alpha Inc. is sponsoring the event, with a portion of the proceeds going to the Global Poverty Initiative.

Decembers' headliner is Ohio native Ed Mabrey. Ed is a two time Individual World Poetry Slam Champion, his most recent win coming just this past October. Ed was also voted the 2012 Poetry Slam Artist of the Year and is a Emmy Nominee, as well as a National Best Seller contributing author (Spoken Word Revolution Redux; Sourcebooks).

“Having been born and raised in the Midwest, any chance I have to return and perform there means a lot to me.” Mabrey said. “It's been years since I performed in Chicago, so when I was invited to perform and learned about the charity the event supports, I couldn't say no.”
