Police: 13-year-old driver hurt in S. Ind. crash
COLUMBUS, Ind. — State police say a 13-year-old runaway lost control of a stolen car on a southern Indiana highway and it crashed down an embankment.
Police say the crash Monday morning at an Interstate 65 interchange a few miles south of Columbus injured both the girl and a 17-year-old boy who was a passenger.
A trooper reported the car was driving erratically on I-65 and that it took off at a high speed after he tried to stop it. Police say the car went out of control while turning onto Indiana 58 and rolled down a stone embankment, landing on its roof.
Police say both teens were runaways from Indianapolis. The girl was taken to a Columbus hospital with non-life-threatening injuries, while the boy was taken by helicopter to an Indianapolis hospital.
