Algonquin Middle School student wins card design contest

District 62 School Board President Brenda Murphy awarded first place to Theresa Li, Algonquin Middle School, in the 2012 District 62 Winter Card Design Contest. Li, an eighth-grade student, designed a card featuring a pair of cardinals set on a snowy background.

Representatives from the Des Plaines Arts Council, Des Plaines Park District, and Maine 207 judged 144 entries on grade appropriate execution, originality, and creativity.

The winning design is featured on the 2012 card that the district sends during the holiday season. All entries will be displayed from Nov. 30-Jan. 7, at the Des Plaines Public Library. Each artist will receive a participation certificate.

Second- and third-place winners were also honored by the board of education. They are: second place, Jonathan Arabis, North Elementary School, third grade; and third place, Sara Gonzalez, Chippewa Middle School, eighth grade.
