An American Airlines flight attendant from Palatine was arrested Friday at O’Hare International Airport after security screeners discovered a gun in her carry-on luggage, authorities said.

Sheila A. Schultz, 65, of the 1200 block of North Grove Avenue, was arrested about 9:30 a.m. Friday after screeners with the Transportation Security Administration discovered the gun in an X-ray machine during routine screening, according to Chicago Police Department spokesman Veejay Zala.

American Airlines spokeswoman Mary Frances Fagan confirmed Schultz is a flight attendant for American but would not comment further.

Schultz was charged with one felony count of boarding an aircraft with a weapon and one misdemeanor count of possessing a firearm without a valid firearm owner’s identification card.

She is due in bond court Saturday.
