Hoffman Estates approves demolition of two Golf Road buildings

Vacant buildings on two Golf Road properties in Hoffman Estates will soon be demolished and replaced with grass until redevelopment occurs.

The Hoffman Estates village board agreed Monday to pay Langos Corp. $48,780 for demolition, asbestos remediation, Freon removal and topsoil and grass restoration at 75 and 85 E. Golf Road.

The village recently purchased the buildings, which once housed snowmobile and motorcycle shops, with funds from the Roselle Road tax increment financing district in hopes of possibly redeveloping the land.

The village decided to proceed with demolition due to safety issues and to assist in marketing the sites.

Langos Corp. submitted the lowest of five bids, and Assistant Village Manager of Development Services Mark Koplin said its bid was “quite a bit less” than what the village estimated the job would cost.

Langos also completed the demolition and restoration of the property where a Kentucky Fried Chicken was once located on Higgins Road, prior to the village selling the land to Valli Produce.
