Police find elusive suspect in Gurnee

A 25-year-old man was in police custody Friday night following an off-and-on foot chase over the course of four hours that began with a counterfeit bill investigation at Gurnee Mills.

Mall security called for assistance from the Gurnee Police Department about 4 p.m. to assist with the investigation, when one of two suspects took off, according to Cmdr. William Meyer of the Gurnee Police Department.

Police gave chase on foot, lost the suspect, but then rediscovered him and gave chase again when he went into a swamp area between Bass Pro Shops and Interstate 94, Meyer said.

Authorities set up a perimeter around the swamp and, with the assistance of a K9 unit from the North Chicago Police Department, were able to apprehend the suspect about 8 p.m., Meyer said.

The suspect and his accomplice, who was already in police custody from earlier Friday, were being questioned by Gurnee police Friday night.
