Missouri man arrested in Elgin on sex assault charges

A Missouri man was arrested by Elgin police and is accused of sexually assaulting a 41-year-old woman Tuesday at a Dundee Avenue hotel, authorities said.

Mudy Munoz-Salgado, 35, of Eldon, Mo., is charged with two counts of aggravated criminal sexual assault, criminal sexual assault, two counts of aggravated battery and unlawful restraint.

Police said they were called to the Lexington Inn Suites, 1585 Dundee Ave., Elgin, at 12:24 p.m. on Tuesday, and the victim told them a man grabbed her by the arm, pulled her into a stairwell and then up to the door of a second-floor room.

The victim tried to escape, she said, but the man pulled her into the room and assaulted her, police said.

After the victim gave police a description of her attacker, police located Munoz-Salgado at the inn.

The woman then positively identified Munoz-Salgado, police said. She said she had seen him before, because he works with a friend.

Police said a video security camera showed the defendant approaching the victim and pulling her to the stairwell, as well as other actions that preceded their entry into the room.

When police interviewed Munoz-Salgado, he told them he had met the victim through other people he works with six months ago but had not seen her for several months, authorities said.

Munoz-Salgado told police he walked into the hotel, saw the victim in the hallway and wanted to have sex with her, police said.

Munoz-Salgado is being held at the Kane County jail on $3 million bail.

He is scheduled to appear in court in St. Charles on Nov. 29.
