5K Chilly Chili Race Dec. 1 in Schaumburg

Brave the cold with a 5K run on a chilly December day and warm up afterward with a chili lunch.

Schaumburg Park District’s annual 5K Chilly Chili Race will begin at 10 a.m., Saturday, Dec. 1, at Schaumburg Golf Club, 401 N. Roselle Road. Check-in will begin at 8 a.m. and end at 9:45 a.m. There will be a pre-race briefing at 9:45 a.m.

A chili lunch will be served after the 3.1-mile run on the USATF certified course. Participants 21 and older will receive one free beer. Additional beer and soda will be available for purchase.

“The race is a great opportunity for runners to stay active and continue competing in the winter,” said Jennie Bever, fitness supervisor for Schaumburg Park District. Awards will be given to the overall male and female winners as well as the first, second and third place male and female winners in the 10-14, 15-19, 20-24, 25-29, 30-34, 35-39, 40-44, 45-49, 50-54, 55-59, 60-64, 65 and older age categories. Awards will be distributed the day of the event.

Preregistration cost is $40. Preregistration deadline is 5 p.m. Friday, Nov. 23. The first 200 participants to register receive a winter hat that will be available for pick up at 8:30 a.m. on race day. If hats are still available, race-day registrants may pick up after the race. Day-of registration cost is $45. Race day registration begins at 8 a.m. and ends at 9:45 a.m.

All participants must complete a race entry form, which is available at park district facilities or online at www.parkfun.com. Online registration is available on Active.com.

The 5K Chilly Chili Race is a Schaumburg CAN (Children – Activity – Nutrition) program. Schaumburg CAN’s mission is to align the community around opportunities that build a foundation of healthy activity and nutrition for children.
