Truck driver charged with DUI in I-94 crash
The driver of a semi that tipped over, spilling its load and blocking all southbound lanes of I-94 for much of Tuesday afternoon was charged with driving under the influence, according to state police.
Three semi-trucks were involved in a crash at about 1:40 p.m. on I-94 at 159th Street. One truck tipped on its side, spilling heavy duty pipes across the roadway.
All lanes remained closed until shortly after 5 p.m., when the debris was moved aside enough to open two lanes, Illinois State Police Master Sgt. Robert Satkiewicz said.
“They’re still cleaning it up. It’s moved to the side for now,” he said.
Traffic was directed to exit off 159th Street. The ramp from eastbound 159th Street will remain closed for part of this evening while clean up continues.
It was unclear if any injuries took place, Satkiewicz said. Police could not release the name of the driver charged with DUI.
