Harper advances to fifth-place game

The Harper College women’s soccer team advanced to Sunday’s fifth-place game of the NJCAA tournament by defeating eighth-ranked Anne Arundel 2-1 in double overtime Friday in Dryden, NY.

The Hawks struck first as Weslie Iza (Fremd) was able to collect her second assist of the tournament, finding Devan Swank for the game’s first goal 15 minutes in.

Anne Arundel (13-4-0) was able to tie the score on Meghann Jackson’s equalizer with 12:09 remaining in the first half.

The game stayed tied for the next 45-plus minutes. In the second overtime, Swank struck again with the game-winner.

The Hawks (7-11) play third-ranked Holyoke Community College (Mass., 18-2-1) for fifth place at 9 a.m. Sunday.

Harper’s game one opponent, second-ranked Gloucester, will meet top-ranked Mohawk Valley in Sunday’s title game.
