Batavia keeps mayor’s, aldermen’s pay the same

The Batavia City Council Monday set the pay for the mayor, clerk and aldermen to be elected in April.

It is keeping the pay the same for the mayor, aldermen and treasurer. Several weeks ago, an attempt to cut their pay by 10 percent failed.

This means the next mayor will be paid $26.05 per hour, not to exceed $2,605 per month. The aldermen elected in the spring will be paid $200 per council meeting, and the treasurer will be paid $600 per year.

The new clerk will be paid $6,368 annually starting in May; that will rise to $7,370 by May 2016.

Aldermen are allowed two paid absences from council meetings annually. They are also paid for special council meetings.
