Link easily retains seat in state Senate

State Sen. Terry Link, a Waukegan Democrat, won re-election handily in the 60th Senate District on Tuesday, garnering more than two-thirds of the vote in Lake County precincts.

With all 104 precincts counted, unofficial results show Link received 41,077 votes, or about 67 percent, while his Republican opponent, Don Castella of Lincolnshire, received 20,625 votes, or roughly 33 percent. The Lake County totals did not include early-voting or vote-by-mail ballots.

In the Cook County portion of the district, unofficial vote totals have Link receiving 2,374 votes to Castella’s 1,301, with all seven precincts counted.

“I’m extremely happy to be given another term by the voters,” said Link, head of the county’s Democratic Party. Citing other Tuesday wins for Democrats in the county, including State Sen. Julie Morrison and State Rep. Rita Mayfield, Link added that “this was a great day for the Democratic Party in our county.”
