Batavia aldermen Dietz, Jungels won’t seek re-election

Two Batavia alderman announced Monday that they will not run for re-election in April.

Second Ward Alderman Victor Dietz said he will not run again because he has a new job that requires extensive travel.

Janet Jungels, 3rd Ward alderman, also said she will not run.

Both made their announcements at the end of a city council meeting.

“I hope that somebody of a conservative stripe will take Charlie Beckman’s seat,” Dietz said, referring to the longtime alderman who held the position before him. Dietz was first elected in 2005, and re-elected in 2009.

Jungels was appointed in 2010 to fill the vacancy left by the death of Alderman Linnea Miller. She was then elected in 2011 to serve the remaining two years of Miller’s term.
