Bloomington man gets 42 years for assaulting girls
BLOOMINGTON — A judge has sentenced a 40-year-old Bloomington man to 42 years in prison for sexually assaulting two young girls.
The (Bloomington) Pantagraph reports that John E. Smith was sentenced Thursday after being convicted in August of predatory criminal sexual assault of two girls under 12 years old.
Before his sentencing, Smith denied the sexual assaults, saying “an injustice was carried out.”
But Judge Robert Freitag disagreed, calling Smith’s actions “the most vile and reprehensible conduct.” The judge says there’s “significant evidence” that it wasn’t the first time Smith had engaged in such conduct.
