Choose prosecutor who stuck with the office
Like many in the legal community, I know Mike Nerheim and Chris Kennedy. I worked with each in the Lake County State’s Attorney’s Office. They are both good men.
It is their path since leaving the office that sets Mike apart from Chris and makes him the only choice for state’s attorney.
Chris left the office and went about representing civil clients and insurance companies. Laudably, he helped change laws and write legislation for families with children with special needs.
He hasn’t spent any time doing anything within the Lake County criminal justice system in almost 15 years. Simply being a lawyer does not qualify you for the county’s most vital law enforcement job.
Many lawyers, upon leaving the state’s attorney’s office have gone on to do great things in other areas of the law, and like Chris, they are not qualified to be Lake County state’s attorney. Chris would make a good legislator.
On the other hand, Mike Nerheim has spent his entire legal career working within the Lake county criminal justice system. His choice to continue within the system after leaving the office makes him the only qualified candidate. Mike is keenly aware of wrongful convictions within the office.
This is not personal. Law enforcement organizations from across Lake County, regardless of party affiliation, endorse Mike, as they too know what is at stake. Mike’s experience and independence lead to one conclusion: He is the only choice to restore the public’s confidence in the state’s office by ensuring justice is done.
