'Campaign' DVD earns votes for laughs, satire

“The Campaign”

With the presidential election less than a week away, “The Campaign” is out on DVD, sending up the political system and providing laughs to counter all the TV ads and negative mailers.

Will Ferrell and Zach Galifianakis star as rival candidates. Cam Brady (Ferrell) is a long-term Democratic congressman from North Carolina who usually wins with ease. Things are about to change, though, when the Motch Brothers (Dan Aykroyd and John Lithgow) decide they want to build a huge factory in Brady's district. They need a congressman in their pockets so that they can bring in cheap Chinese labor and make millions.

They decide to back Marty Huggins (Galifianakis) the son of a former Congressman who runs a small tourist agency. He knows nothing about politics, but the Motch Brothers send in Tim Wattley (Dylan McDermott) to teach him how to become a candidate. Soon, Brady is in a fight for his political career. “The Campaign” manages to be funny and serious at the same time, a commentary of sorts on the current state of politics.
