Ingleside man dies in Route 12 crash in Fox Lake

Fox Lake police say a driver died Wednesday afternoon after crossing into the opposite lanes of Route 12 and striking a traffic signal pole.

Gregory Mironchuk, 54, of unincorporated Ingleside, was pronounced dead at the scene, said Lake County Coroner Artis Yancey.

Fox Lake police Lt. Mark Schindler said Mironchuk was driving a silver 2002 Nissan Sentra GXE south on Route 12 about 2:40 p.m. Wednesday. Schindler said Mironchuk then crossed a grassy median and went onto Route 12’s northbound side just beyond Hartigan Road before crashing into the traffic signal pole.

“We did have an officer in the area who observed this and he responded immediately,” Schindler said.

Mironchuk was trapped in the vehicle and unconscious when the officer reached him, said police.

Schindler said the Nissan was totaled.

Schindler said the cause of the crash was not immediately known. Lake County Major Crash Assistance Team members are helping Fox Lake in the investigation.
