Vigil for missing Volo woman, two children

The Lake County sheriff's office said Sunday evening that a missing Volo woman and her two young daughters were found safe and vacationing near the Wisconsin Dells. Aneta Marsek and her daughters, Chevelle, 2, and Macenzie, 4 months went missing Oct. 6 after leaving her parents' Wauconda home. Full story.

Congressional candidates meet face to face

Republican incumbent U.S. Rep. Bob Dold and Democratic challenger Brad Schneider, candidates for the 10th Congressional District in Cook and Lake counties, met for a debate Saturday. So did Republican U.S. Rep. Judy Biggert and Democratic challenger Bill Foster, opponents in the 11th Congressional District in southern DuPage, southeastern Kane and central Will counties. More than 20 years ago, the North Aurora Democrat, now 42, enjoyed a brief career as a nude, lingerie, swimsuit and video game model. Lake in the Hills man killed near U of I

A Lake in the Hills man attending the University of Illinois died Saturday morning after police say he was struck by a hit-and-run driver. Anthony G. Pauls, 20, was hit by a vehicle around 11:50 p.m. Friday on the 200 block of West University Avenue near an intersection, according to a news release from the Urbana Police Department. The driver fled the scene but later was arrested. Full story.

Fire in Palatine

Palatine firefighters extinguished a fire early Saturday that left a townhouse near Dundee and Hicks roads uninhabitable, department officials reported. When firefighters arrived at the seven-unit townhouse building in the 1400 block of North Waterbury Circle, they saw flames on the balcony of the second-floor home. Full story.

Police: Burglars targeted homes left empty during funerals

A Johnsburg husband and wife already being held in Cook County on burglary charges found themselves in even more hot water, after McHenry County police say they connected them to five burglaries that occurred while the homeowners were attending wakes or funerals. Jason Werner, 26, and his wife, Jacquelyn Buchholz, 24, of the 100 block of Pleasant View Drive, were each charged with five counts of residential burglary and five counts of theft. Full story.

Four injured in St. Charles crash

Alcohol and faulty equipment are suspected of playing a part in a head-on crash in St. Charles Sunday morning that sent four people to the hospital, police said. Police and firefighters responded just before 11 a.m. to the two-vehicle crash on Route 31, just north of Wildrose Springs Drive. Full story.
