Antioch man charged in burglary

A 20-year-old man was charged with burglarizing a tobacco store in Antioch overnight Thursday, authorities said Friday.

Keith Populorum, 20, of the 25400 block of West Richmond Avenue in Antioch, is charged with breaking into the Cigarette Depot, 391½ Lake St., and stealing “numerous” items, according to a news release from the Antioch Police Department.

Officers responded to the store after 8 a.m. Thursday when the shop’s owner arrived to open the business and discovered the glass front door shattered. Blood was splattered about the store, indicating the suspect was likely injured during the burglary, police said.

Investigators later found Populorum at the State Line Motel in Trevor, Wis., where he was taken into custody.

If convicted, Populorum faces up to seven years in prison or a fine of up to $25,000.
