Maine West, Conant earn sectional spots

Maine West lives to play another day.

Led by a 78 from senior Tom Kukec at Glenview Park Golf Club on Tuesday, the Warriors earned the final team qualification for the sectional round from the Class 3A Glenbrook South regional.

Glenbrook North, led by a 2-over 72 from senior Harrison Marrick, earned top team spot with 293. Maine South was next at 323, and Maine West (327) topped the host Titans for third place by 7 strokes.

Contributing to Maine West’s score were Justin Mustari (80), Mike Fowler (83) and Tony Volk (86). Ken Fester (88) and Cameron Geradei (95) will join them in competition at the New Trier sectional next Monday at Winnetka Golf Course.

Lake Park regional

Conant, led by an 81 from junior Zach Brill, had the second-best team score in the Class 3A Lake Park regional to earn a spot in the sectional.

Lake Park (336) had the top team score, with Conant at 341 and Addison Trail at 347 at par-72 Indian Lakes Resort.

The next step for those teams is Monday’s St. Charles East sectional at St. Andrews in West Chicago.

Fenton sophomore Sebastian Dobon was individual medalist with a 74.

Contributing to Conant’s score were seniors Ryan Bailey (86), Ryan Curran (87) and Zach Piepho (87). Joining them at the sectional will be Mike Mayers (96) and Jonathan Chang (98).

Schaumburg and Elk Grove both had two players advance as individuals. The Saxons’ qualifiers are seniors Matt Flasza (81) and Carmen Valerio (84); the Grens’ are seniors Ryan White (83) and Anthony Stacey (83).
