Palatine teens charged with armed robberies

Police charged three Palatine teenagers with armed robbery after authorities say the trio committed two armed robberies within 10 minutes Monday evening in the 600-800 blocks of E. Whispering Oaks Court in Palatine.

A Cook County judge set bail at $20,000 each Friday for Qua’son Parker, 17; Kenneth Smith, 16, and Justis Wilson, 15. Each has been charged as an adult with armed robbery, a class X felony punishable by six to 30 years in prison.

Prosecutors say the teens confronted a male victim about 25 years old about 9:35 p.m. Monday as he exited his vehicle. They pushed the man to the ground while Parker, who was wearing a hooded sweatshirt, pointed a black pellet gun to his head while the others punched and kicked him, said Cook County Assistant State’s Attorney Jennifer Walsh. They took the man’s wallet, cellphone and $25, Walsh said.

About 10 minutes later, the teens confronted a woman in her early 50s as she exited her car. Parker pointed the black pellet gun at her and demanded her purse, Walsh said. They ran off with her purse, wallet and laptop, Walsh said.

The teens next appear in court on Oct. 19.
