Competence over charisma

I read with some amazement the editorial board’s comment in the Aug. 30 edition titled, “Romney’s Fragile Moment in History.” The editorial expresses a lack of understanding of who Mitt Romney is and what he stands for.

While I do not share the lack of understanding, I can understand the issue. What I cannot understand is the statement that “he is a man also who so far lacks charisma.”

After America elected Barack Obama — possibly the most charismatic, “cool” president in recent history and after four years of unfulfilled promises and dismal economic performance, have we not learned that the selection of our leaders needs to be based on anything but charisma?

For me, I will take competence over charisma any day.
