Teachers strike at Lake Forest High School

Teachers in Chicago aren't the only ones on strike after negotiators in Lake Forest failed to agree on a new contract for high school teachers.

The 150 teachers in the suburban Chicago district decided to strike after contract talks broke off late Tuesday.

Lake Forest Education Association spokesman Chuck Gress say the union is disappointed the district didn't respond to the association's last salary proposal. Gress didn't give details about the proposal.

But in a statement, the school district says that proposal asked for pay increases that are more than double the Consumer Price Index.

The Lake Forest strike leaves about 1,700 students out of class. The district says Lake Forest Community High School will be open to students between 7:50 a.m. and 3:10 p.m. Wednesday. Lunch will be served.
