Schaumburg’s Miss Septemberfest 2012 crowned

Mariah Ghant of Conant High School was named Schaumburg’s Miss Septemberfest 2012 Friday at a special luncheon held by The Rotary Club of Schaumburg/Hoffman Estates.

Ghant was selected from among five semifinalists to serve as Miss Septemberfest throughout the three-day festival this Labor Day weekend.

The semifinalists, as well as an original pool of 22 applicants, were judged on their poise, character, community involvement and knowledge of Schaumburg in the scholarship program.

The other four semifinalists will serve this weekend as members of Miss Septemberfest’s court.

Ghant will receive a $500 scholarship from the Rotary Club, while the other court members will receive $250 scholarships.

The Sons and Daughters of Italy also award the winner with a $1,000 scholarship and the other semifinalists with $250 scholarships.

Miss Septemberfest and her court will introduce the musical acts on the main stage at Septemberfest, interact with children at the festival and appear in the parade on Monday morning.
