Northbrook Symphony, New Tradition Chorus in concert

After a well-received patriotic program last year for Sept. 11, the Northbrook Symphony Orchestra and the New Tradition Chorus will join forces again at 4 p.m. Sunday, Sept. 9, to present “Glenbrook Pops” on the campus of Glenbrook South High School, 4000 W. Lake Ave., Glenview. This concert will highlight our country’s unique musical style, history and heritage.

Larry Rapchak, musical director of the symphony and Jay Giallombardo, musical director of the chorus, collaborated on the selections, consisting entirely of songs written by American composers.

Tickets are available now at www.newtradition.org or (800) 746-9246. Group discounts available.

This all-American “POPS concert” will feature several popular musical genres from the many eras of our country, going from it’s formative days to now.

The New Tradition will take you back in time with quintessential tunes of early America, on a trip across our great land with its Cities Medley and will bring you back to the present day with selections like “Wind Beneath My Wings.”

For its part in the program, the Northbrook Symphony Orchestra will present a variety of works by the great American composer Richard Rodgers including “Victory at Sea.”

The chorus and the orchestra will then join together to celebrate the great tradition of American popular and patriotic music with selections such as “Song of America,” a new arrangement by Giallombardo. Finally, the orchestra and chorus will pay tribute to all five branches of the military with the Armed Forces Medley. This promises to be a rousing finale to the star spangled show.
