Itasca man injured in house fire

An Itasca man suffered minor injuries while trying to put out a bedroom fire late Tuesday morning, officials said.

Firefighters responded to the blaze on the 500 block of Home Avenue at 11:22 a.m. and found an upstairs bedroom on fire, said Lt. Rob Pokorny.

“It was well involved,” he said. “Fire was blowing out the window pretty hard.”

Firefighters were able to contain most of the fire to the bedroom, but an area of the hallway received fire damage.

The man who was burned while attempting to put out the fire was taken to Alexian Brothers Medical Center in Elk Grove Village.

The home was left uninhabitable by the fire.

Officials said the cause of the blaze remained under investigation Tuesday night. Pokorny estimated the damage to the home at more than $50,000.

Itasca firefighters were assisted by crews from Wood Dale, Roselle, Bloomingdale, Elk Grove, Schaumburg, Elmhurst and Addison.
