Schaumburg man charged with sexual assault

A Cook County judge set bail at $40,000 Friday for a 21-year-old Schaumburg man charged with molesting a 10-year-old a few years ago.

Jorge Martinez, Jr., of the 2300 block of Discovery Drive, was 17 and living in Roselle at the time the molestation took place, prosecutors said.

He has been charged with predatory criminal sexual assault, a felony punishable by six to 30 years in prison, for molesting the child twice between April 2008 and June 2009, said Cook County Assistant State’s Attorney Lesley Gool.

The child’s parents learned of the abuse last month after the child told them and a friend, Gool said.

Martinez, who has no criminal background, next appears in court on Sept. 14.
