Rosemont, Schaumburg among top 50 meeting sites

Rosemont and Schaumburg have made a list of the top 50 meeting destinations in the U.S., Schaumburg for the very first time.

The list was compiled by Cvent, a meetings and event management technology company.

Rosemont was 33 on the list and Schaumburg 44. Chicago rounded out the top five, which also consisted of Orlando, Fla.; Washington, D.C.; Las Vegas; and Miami.

As suburban communities, Rosemont and Schaumburg are relatively rare examples on the list, which mostly consists of major metropolitan centers.

Schaumburg Mayor Al Larson credits the Renaissance Schaumburg Convention Center Hotel, which opened in 2006 and has been recovering strongly from the recession.

“I've heard from people that they love it — they absolutely love it,” Larson said. “It used to be, ‘Where's Schaumburg?' We're carving out a niche out here.”

In compiling the list, Cvent tracked activity in 1,000 cities and 200 major metropolitan areas between July 2011 and June 2012.

The criteria consisted of the number of total hotel room nights booked through the Cvent Supplier Network, the number of unique electronic requests-for-proposals sent through the marketplace to venues in each city, the total value of RFPs submitted and the actual awarded value for meetings booked.
