Carpentersville park commission has openings

The Carpentersville Park Commission is looking for some new blood.

If you’d like to join, send a letter of interest to the village hall, to the attention of Village President Ed Ritter. Village hall is at 1200 L.W. Besinger Drive, Carpentersville, IL 60110.

The nine-member commission is an advisory commission to the village board that recommends policies for the parks that Carpentersville owns and operates by the village.

Membership for nontrustees lasts two years and those interested need to have lived in Carpentersville for at least a year.

Relay For life: On Saturday, Aug. 18, the North McHenry Relay For Life Committee, in conjunction with Stade’s Farm and Market, Star 105.5 and Y103.9 is holding the “Concert For The Cure” to raise money for the American Cancer Society.

This daylong event will start at 8 a.m. with a 5K trail run and 1-mile fun run at the farm, 3709 W. Miller Road, in McHenry.

The concert series will begin at noon with six acts set to perform: Alexis Chancellor, Western Sky Band, Rough Night Out, Kevin Purcell and the Night Burners, “American Idol” top 10 finalist Gina Glocksen, and the headliners Modern Day Romeos.

Kid’s activities and rides, food, beer garden and a vendor fair also will be going on during the day.

Tickets are $10 in advance online and $15 at the door. All proceeds benefit the American Cancer Society. Go to www.relayconcert.org to purchase tickets, register for the race, and learn more about the bands and more.
