LumberKings put the wood to Cougars

Four home runs by the Clinton LumberKings were too much for the Kane County Cougars on Wednesday, as the hosts won the series opener 6-2 at Ashford University Field in Clinton, Iowa.

Cougars starter Aaron Brooks (9-11) got some run support in the top of the first as Jack Lopez and Danny Mateo scored.

But Brooks got bit by the long ball in the bottom of the second when Kevin Rivers launched a solo homer to right. Two batters later, Guillermo Pimentel also drilled a solo shot to tie the game at 2-2.

In the third, Rivers put the LumberKings (51-62) on top to stay as he cracked a 3-run homer to deep right-center. Pimentel hit his second home run of the night with another solo blast in the bottom of the fourth.

David Colvin worked three scoreless frames out of the Clinton bullpen while holding the Cougars (57-58) to only 1 hit.
