Huntley welcomes back talented performers

Rarely do performers entertain residents of Sun City in Huntley twice in the same year. But the members of Project Two, a group of high school students who perform Broadway hits, have been invited back just months after it first performed.

Project Two will perform two shows Thursday at Sun City, 12840 Del Webb Blvd. The 7 p.m. show is sold out, but tickets for a 2 p.m. matinee are available.

“Our senior community enjoys supporting young talent that also comes from the same community,” said Jane Tennant, special events coordinator at Sun City. “They absolutely love not only seeing local talent, but the music is right down memory lane. So there is the community connection, plus they are so talented.”

The group, which formed in 2007 over a love of the hit Broadway musical, “Jersey Boys,” will perform songs from “Hairspray,” “Mamma Mia” and “Grease,” with the second half of the 90-minute show dedicated to “Jersey Boys.”

Dylan Ladd, founder and director of the group said Project Two started out performing “Jersey Boys” songs under the name, “Jersey Kids.” But after two years, they decided the expand their repertoire and change their name.

“All of us are interested in theater and musicals and it is a really open genre,” Ladd said. “There is music for everyone if you look for it. It enables us to have a theme but still have variety.”

In addition to expanding its playlist, Project Two added a live band that includes saxophones, a trombone, guitars and drums.

Tickets for Thursday’s 2 p.m. show are $8 for Sun City residents and $13 for the general public. Purchases at the door are $13 and $18 for residents and nonresidents, respectively.
